Like the restless armour, it is a suit of armour forged in hell that has taken up its sword against humans, but is much more dangerous than its wandering counterpart. Formerly depicted as staunch lone wolves, they have learned to summon allies in battle like their contemporaries as of VIII, while even calling down lightning with their swords by driving them into the ground. According to their monster info in X and XI, those who don the cursed hate mail will have their minds and bodies taken over and forced to become servants of a Demon Lord, becoming infernal armours themselves.
The infernal armour's appearance has changed the most since its first appearance compared to the other suits, originally being silver suits of armour chased with gold and a blue plume on their helmets. For the Super Famicom version of III, the armour was changed to black with purple plumes on their helmets. In the Sony PlayStation version of IV, the plume was changed to light grey and it would maintain this colour scheme for its next few appearances. Starting with Dragon Quest X and most modern appearances, the infernal armour would go back to its original appearance, while the black and gold colour scheme would be used for the Schwarzchuld.
Suits of cursed plate mail that wait for an unwary warrior to put them on. Once donned, they take control of the poor human's soul and force it into eternal servitude
Ambulatory suits of cursed armour. Beware their swords. When driven into the ground, they can stun a group of adversaries with powerful lightning bolts.
Infernal armour began appearing in Version 2.0. They are still able to perform desperate attacks, call down lightning by thrusting their swords into the ground, and can block attacks with their shields, but in this game they are capable of summoning Medislimes in battle as backup.
Empty suits of armour possessed by the souls of soldiers, and fated to fight till their deaths are avenged. The armour itself was forged in an infernal furnace—rumour has it that they mass produce them in purgatory.
In the original Japanese, the infernal armour shares a name with the recurring cursed hate mail armour. In Dragon Quest X and XI, the monster's description states that the armour they wear are one and the same.
