Lanson is a town found in the overworld of Dragon Quest III.

It geographically aligns with the real world Australia. It is a small village with not much to offer, but the residents take pride in the colossal shrine they live near.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit | edit source]

Lanson is located on the southern continent and is only accessible via ship or by Ramia. It serves as the only access point to the Gaia's Navel dungeon, in which the Hero must explore alone.

Lanson is one of few locations that sells Fading Jenny, an herb that produces the same effects as the Fade spell. This item is useful in retrieving the Bottomless Pot in Edina castle.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]

A nun has been placed in the town and there is a wandering cureslime hiding in the grove of trees, but beyond that Lanson has not been changed much in the conversion to HD. The desert leading to Gaia's Navel has been reprogrammed to only be home to weaker monsters, however, likely a player convenience when returning from that dungeon's solo mission.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The older name "Lancel" is likely derived from the Australian town of Lancelin. The name in the modern translation, "Lanson", may have been inspired by another Australian city, Launceston.
