Leopold is the pet dog of Dominico.
Although Leopold was introduced in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, he has made further appearances in the Joker games, as well as Dragon Quest X .
Leopold is an ill-tempered dog of unknown breed, possibly a doberman pincer mix. Though obedient of his master, he will snap at anyone who comes too close to his pin and is particularly spiteful towards his keeper David.
After taking the Sceptre, Leopold's skin turns blue and his fur becomes mangy, with his paws swelling and his tail growing several times its original length and becoming rat-like. Large hawk wings with red-tipped feathers sprout from his back, giving him the appearance of a bestial demon.
"Sir" Leopold is a mere NPC during the Hero party's initial visit to Arcadia. After Evil Jessica was defeated in Dominico's courtyard and the sorceress was liberated from the Sceptre's power, it took time for the party to realize its true nature. During that period, Leopold clutched the Sceptre in his mouth and instantly became possessed, allowing Rhapthorne to continue his killing spree. The possessed Leopold killed David and Marta, but was defeated before he was able to kill the Lord High Priest.
He was finally defeated in Savella Cathedral, but before the party could put an end to Rhapthorne's ambitions, Marcello took possession of the Sceptre and accused the Hero and the party of killing the Lord High Priest and sentenced them and High Priest Rolo to life imprisonment on Purgatory Island.
