The ber is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.
Introduced in Dragon Quest VIII, it's part of a much bigger enemy called a jabberwockee.

Bers make up the lower body of a jabberwockee, holding up their fellow monsters jab, kee, and woc. Until they combine into this ultimate form, they can't do much except attack and defend.
