The Bone Baron is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest IV, it is an undead aristocrat that rides atop a deathly blue horse.
Characteristics
An aristocratic skeletal lancer atop a rabid steed is one way to describe a Bone baron. The rider has the stereotypical appearance of a fop, wearing a powdered wig on top of their skulls, a black wide-brimmed hat with a white plume, a long dark blue coat, white trousers, and red leather boots and gloves. In their right hands, they wield a lance and in their left, a heater shield. The steed has blue skin and a crimson mane.
The rider and steed that compose the Bone baron are both monsters but act as a single unit in battle. The rider performs most of the attacking duties whilst the steed offers it greater mobility. The barons have a particular affinity for spellcasting, having knowledge of ice, death, and dark magic, and being able to call upon lost souls to aid them in battle. In some games, their steeds are also capable of breathing out ice cold blasts at enemies.
