Kerplunk (formerly known as Farewell) is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

It sacrifices the one who casts it to restore all other party members.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit | edit source]

Kerplunk is learned by Meena Mahabala at level 35.

Beelzebuzz use it to revive their allies.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]

Kerplunk is learned by advancing to rank 7 of the Paladin vocation. It is also used by Bomboulders.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]

Learned the same way as in VI, it acts the same once again and is also used by Bomboulders once again. It is also learned by advancing to Rank 6 of the Champion vocation in the 3DS remake

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]

Kerplunk is learned by Yangus after investing 82 skill points into the Humanity skill.

  • Due to the addition of Red and Morrie as playable characters, Kerplunk now heals characters in the wagon as it did in previous titles.

The enemies Pigmalion, Bomboulder, and Beelzebuzz also use it.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]

Kerplunk is learned by Paladins at level 46. It costs all MP to cast.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]

Kerplunk is learned by Serena at level 60 and Hendrik at level 65. It requires 32 MP to cast depleting all when the user dies.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit | edit source]

Called Farewell in this game, it is an ability that can be learned by various monsters. It requires the monsters to be at least level 32, with at least 188 MP, and 176 Intelligence. It is naturally learned by the BombCrag, Digster, Gasgon and WingTree. Any monster can learn it if it knows Sacrifice and Revive.

Farewell now requires 317 Intelligence. It is learned by the Belzebub and GranSlime.

Kerplunk costs every bit of MP the caster has and cannot be used if the moster currently has less than 100 MP. It heals party, including the reserve team and the deceased, but sacrifices the caster who cannot be revived in the same battle. The amount of HP restored is 10%, rising to 50% at 1,999 wisdom. It is learned through the Heretic, Martyr, Ramia, and Rockin’ Roller talents.
