The Hocus chimaera is a recurring monster in the series, introduced in the original Dragon Quest. They look just like their normal kin, but are composed of warmer colours such as browns and oranges. True to their name, they have learned a wingfull of spells.

Characteristics

Fiery feathered, floating, flappy beasts with perpetually fluttering wings that keep them afloat and allow the Hocus chimaera to breathe a fearsome fire on all adventurers in a single swoop. They bolster their fire-belching ability with knowledge of different spells depending on the game, including healing allies and debilitating their foes.

Hocus chimaera appears as a C-rank monster of the Nature family that can learn be scouted from Chapters 9-2, 11-2, 11-3, 11-8, 12-8, and 15-3 of the main storyline. It can also be scouted from Chapter 2, Episode 3 of the event quests during the limited Holy Night Gift Hunt Expedition and Serious Showdown!? White Hot Sweets Contest at any difficulty. The hocus chimaera can participate in the Battle Roads of the Crabid, Skelegon, Kiefer, Yangus, Mont Leonis, and Sweet troll as a party member.
