The King slime is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, a giant crown-wearing blob created when multiple regular Slimes fuse together.
King Slimes made their first appearance in Derupa! Iruriru! (a 2-chapter manga which would retroactively become the first arc of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai), before making their game debut in Dragon Quest IV a few months later.
King slimes appear to be large, engorged slimes, notably due to their chubby cheeks imposing on the edges of their toothless grins. Going along with their kingly status, they wear crowns, usually shown as being gold-rimmed with purple and green striped fabric. As shown in an optional cutscene in VIII, the crown is what maintains the fusion status and the King will disperse into its component Slimes if it is removed.
In terms of strength, King slimes are a massive step up from the average slime in all parameters, especially HP and Attack. They are often shown as being versed in magic, normally having access to Midheal and Zing in most games; occasionally the King slime can cast Snub. While King slimes can appear as is, players will normally first encounter this monster upon running into a group of special slimes that can summon others of their type; when eight of these Slimes (called Slimification) gather, they can pile up and fuse into a single King slime.
In chapter 2 of Derupa! Iruriru!, a King Slime is among the cameos of monsters from the upcoming Dragon Quest IV. When Zurubon of the fake Hero's party captures a group of Slimes in a net, they merge into a King Slime and break free.
