Characteristics edit
The plain clothes consist of a light yellow or beige tunic made of thick cloth and secured only with a blue belt around the waist. In official art from Famicom and Super Famicom games, they are worn with a pair of trousers and sandals or simple shoes, as well. Plain clothes can be commonly found in the dressers and cupboards of villagers' homes in practically every game. Many characters throughout the series wear plain clothes as part of their initial equipment.

They can be purchased for 10 gold at Aliahan and sold for 7 gold. A set can be found in a chest of drawers at Jipang and another at Kol. They have a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Walking corpse.

The Hero, Borya, and Torneko wear them as part of their initial equipment. Some sets can be found at Strathbaile, Zalenagrad, Vrenor, and Casabranca. They have a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Bodkin archer and a 1⁄128 chance of being dropped by Lugworm.

The Plain clothes have a Defence bonus of +4 and can be equipped by all human party members, as well as monster companions in the G, J, and P equipment groups. They can be purchased for 30 gold in Roundbeck during the Hero's youth and sold for 15 gold. They are part of the Hero's initial equipment.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation edit
The Plain clothes have a Defence bonus of +4, a Style bonus of +2, and can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Milly, Ashlynn, Nevan, Terry, Amos, Lizzie, and Pierre. They cannot be purchased anywhere, but they can be sold for 22 gold. They are part of the Hero's initial equipment. Some sets can be found at Somnia, Wellshire, and Ghent. They have a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Gustodian.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past edit
The Plain clothes have a Defence bonus of +4, a Style bonus of +2, and can be equipped by all characters. They are part of both the Hero and Maribel's initial equipment. They can be purchased for 30 gold in Pilchard Bay, Estard, and L'Arca and sold for 15 gold coins. Some more sets can be found in Ballymolloy in the past, Regenstein, L'Arca in the present, the Bandits' Base, Gröndal in the past, and Providence in the present. Plain clothes can be won as a prize from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined edit
The Plain clothes have a Defence bonus of +4 and can be equipped by all characters. They can be purchased for 10 gold from Pilchard Bay and Estard and sold for 5 gold. Some sets can be found at Ballymolloy in the past, L'Arca in the past and present, Precipice Pass, Nottagen in the present, and Vogograd in the present. They can be dropped by Bodkin archer, Shabby cat, Drake slime, Mud mannequin, Bag o' laughs, and Bag snatcher.

The Plain clothes are 1★ clothes that can be equipped by all characters. At level 20, they have a Defence and Magical Defence bonus of +20. They are a starter piece of equipment and could occasionally be acquired from free Treasure Hunts. The design is based on the cloth top from Dragon Quest X.
