Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Drackmage appeared from the beginning of the game, once again having their familiar ability to cast Kasap on novice adventurers. It is possible to change the appearance of a Dracky monster companion to that of a drackmage with the use of a colour-changing ticket.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Drackmage's English name is a portmanteau of Dracky and mage, which means 'magic user'; this species is the first in the line to use magic. Its older names, Magidrakee and WizDracky, also allude to this capacity.
  • The Japanese name タホドラキー (tahodorakī) is actually a result of the limited Famicom/NES memory of the original Dragon Quest. Due to this limited memory, not all the Japanese kana could be included, so Yuji Horii was required to alter タフドラキー (tafudorakī -- i.e. "tough-dracky") to タホドラキー, which could actually be spelled with the limited kana available. The drackmage's monster descriptions in several games even alludes to unusual origins of its name.
