The Cautery sword is a sword in the series. When used as a tool in battle, it inflicts a small amount of fire damage to a group of enemies.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit | edit source]
The Cautery sword has an Attack bonus of +45 and can be equipped by the Hero, Ragnar, Torneko, and the last party member. When used as a tool in battle, it casts Sizz on a group of enemies. One can be found in a treasure chest on 1F of the Loch Tur in Chapter 1. During Chapter 3 while playing as Torneko, there is a small chance that a customer may sell him a cautery sword, allowing you to purchase it. It can also be purchased in Aubout du Monde from Chapter 5 onward, Mintos, and Canalot for 3,500 gold and sold for 2,625 gold.
- In remake versions of the game, it has a 1⁄128 chance of being dropped by Knightshades.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]
The Cautery sword has an attack bonus of +45 and can be equipped by the Hero, his son, Harry, Tuppence, Slime knight, Restless armour, Blizzybody, Warhog, Conkuistador, Pip fighter, Mudraker, Magic marionette, Wax murderer, Golem, Samigina, Hawk man, Mandrake marshal, Hyperanemon, Killing machine, Barbatos, Revaulting horse, Dwight, and Starkers.
It can be purchased at the weapon shops in Mostroferrato, Stockenbarrel, Helmunaptra, and Battenburg for 4,400 gold and sold for 2,200 gold.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]
The Cautery sword has an Attack bonus of +42, a Style bonus of +23, and can be equipped by the Hero, Milly, Amos, Terry, Lizzie, and Goowain. It is part of Amos's initial equipment. When used as a tool in battle, it casts Sizz on a group of enemies. It can be purchased for 4,400 gold in Alltrades Abbey, Ghent, Arkbolt, Scrimsley, and Clearvale and sold for 3,300 gold.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]
The Cautery sword has an Attack bonus of +42, a Style bonus of +23, and can be equipped by the Hero, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It casts Sizz on a group of enemies when used as a tool in battle. It can be purchased for 5,400 gold from El Ciclo in the present, Greenthumb Gardens during the second visit in the past, Wetlock in the past, and Hubble in the present and sold for 2,700 gold. The sword has a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Knight shifts.

The Cautery sword has an Attack bonus of +44, a Style bonus of +6, increases the wielder's Weight by 6, and has an equipment level of 35. It can be equipped by Warriors, Minstrels, Gladiators, Paladins, Armamentalists, Fortune Tellers, Gadabouts, Demon Swordsmen, and Guardians. It can be crafted by a weapon blacksmith or with the Fun-Size Forge. In the Offline version of the game, it can be equipped by Hussar and Anlucia.
- Starting with Version 6.2, the amount of materials required to make one were reduced, making it easier to craft.
