Introduced in Dragon Quest II, it was originally a Material monster, but has been re-classified as a member of the Undead family in many installments in both the main series and its spinoffs.
Muddy hands are animated human hands made of mud. They have the annoying ability of summoning other muddy hands or even other monsters, prolonging the length of a battle. However, this can be a secret blessing as the player gains the experience of defeating the extra monsters. Furthermore, the dirt clods are never totally immune to instant death so patient players can continuously wipe out whole groups if they are lucky.
Because they tend to summon more of their kind along with the occasional golem, they are a popular method for leveling up and accumulating gold before players have reliable access to liquid metal slimes in the final floor of the Gotha Pass
Muddy hands appeared from the beginning of the game. Naturally, they still have their familiar ability to call for backup, being able to summon more of its kind or healslimes to assist them in battle.
They say that these monsters are made when men drowning in the mire and desperately waving beneath the surface, and give their despairing souls to the swamp.
Monsters that lurk beneath the mud and murk, leaving only their hand wholly visible. Run into one and you can expect more than just a slap on the wrist
