Characteristics edit
The cypress stick is a crude, but simple length of wood that can be used as a club or baton. It is usually the weakest weapon in the game. In its earliest depictions, it had a loop at the end of its handle. Later entries in the series shows the cypress stick as having a length of cloth around its handle as a rudimentary grip. In later games, the cypress stick is wielded as a makeshift sword.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line edit
The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by all characters. It is part of the Princess of Moonbrooke's initial equipment. It has a 1⁄8 chance of being dropped by Magus, as well, and it is the only other way to acquire one. It can be sold for 15 gold.

The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by all vocations. The King of Aliahan gives one to the hero at the beginning of his quest. It can be purchased at Aliahan for 5 gold and sold for 3 gold. It has a 1⁄32 chance of being dropped by Shell slime, as well.

The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by all characters. It is part of Borya's initial equipment. It can be sold in Shinnock for a while during Chapter 3 for 10 gold, but is listed as Steel broadsword to trick any travelers. The cypress stick has a 1⁄32 chance of being dropped by Winkster, as well as a 1⁄64 chance by Frolicker and Axolotl.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride edit
The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by the Hero, the Son, Sancho, Brownie, Orc king, Hoodlum, Archdemon, Gigantes, Pip fighter, Conkuistador, Prestidigitator, Ghost, Hulagan, Old man of the sea, Epipany, Wiz pip, Conkuisitor, Conkjurer, Walking corpse, and Rockbomb. It is part of the Hero's initial equipment. It can be purchased for 10 gold at Whealbrook during the Hero's childhood and sold for 5 gold.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation edit
The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by the Hero, Ashlynn, Carver, Milly, and Nevan, being part of the Hero's initial equipment. It can be purchased for 10 gold from Weaver's Peak and sold for 7. It has a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Budding sorcerer and Goblin pixie, and a 1⁄128 chance of being dropped by Magic marionette.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past edit
The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +2 and can be equipped by all characters. When equipped by Ruff, it actually decreases his Attack by 1. It can be purchased at Pilchard Bay and Estard for 10 gold and sold for 5 gold. One can be found in a dresser at Estard's inn. It has a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Meowgicians and Peahooters.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, it is part of Kiefer's initial equipment. One can also be found in a treasure chest on the fishing boat in Pilchard Bay at the beginning of the game. Clay colonels have a 1⁄16 chance of dropping them, as well.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined edit
The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +7 and can be equipped by all characters. It is part of the Hero, Maribel, and Kiefer's initial equipment. The cypress stick can be purchased for 10 gold from Pilchard Bay and Estard Castle and sold for 5 gold. One can be found in a barrel at Pilchard Bay, another in a pot at Estard, and a third in a barrel at Estard Castle. More can be picked up from a sparkly spot outside of Pilchard Bay, as well. Cypress stick can also be dropped by Meowgician and Shell slime.

The Cypress stick has an Attack bonus of +4. In this game, it is classified as a sword and can only be equipped by the Hero. It can be purchased for 10 gold at Farebury and Peregrin Quay and sold for 5 gold. One can be found at Farebury's weapon shop in a treasure chest requiring the Thief's key to open. It has a 1⁄32 chance of being dropped by Lump mage and a 1⁄64 chance of being dropped by Capsichum. The cypress stick can be mixed with various items in the Alchemy Pot.

The Cypress stick only has an Attack bonus of +1. It can be crafted from 1 unit of wood at a tree stump, mason's workbench, or carpenter's workstation.

Dragon Quest Tact edit
The Cypress stick is a D-rank sword with an ATK bonus of +3, a max HP bonus of +9, and two slots for Alchemy Effects. It can be acquired as a reward for completing the Swords: Intermediate level.

- The cypress stick shares its position as the weakest weapon in the series with the bamboo pole.
- The anime series Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei makes a humorous reference to the cypress stick in an imagine spot as being the bare minimum for an adventurer, along with the plain clothes and pot lid.
