Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Smash/Grow is a roguelite RPG in which the player traverses through short areas, fighting monsters and gathering blessings that increase their power or grant passive power-ups. This title features special, more powerful skills called Coup de Grâce, which reload by attacking enemies. The blessings and coup de grâce gouge reset each time a dungeon starts.

Smash/Grow offers similar character customization and growth as Dragon Quest Walk. Each player can fully customize a group of 3 heroes -appearance, voice, vocation, equipment (equipped and visible), and more-, The stats of each character grow as they level up, but they are also tied to their equipment and their equipped souls. These "souls" allow characters to obtain a variety of increased stats and passive skills. They are generally obtained by defeating monsters or as event rewards.

Much like Walk and Stars, Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is an equipment-oriented gacha game. Each piece of equipment comes with unique skills and stat bonuses which can be upgraded. Much like in the already-mentioned titles, equipment has two upgrades: level and max level. Increasing the max-level requires copies of the same equipment piece, and generally grants interesting bonuses.

Smash Grow features multiplayer for up to 4 players, in which the group must defend a location from incoming enemy hordes.
