Characteristics
The standard Chimaera has what appears to be a vulture's head with a ring of downy feathers around its neck. Its body is that of a chubby snake, and the wings are constantly beat to keep the creature airborne.
The chimaera is a monster with a vulture's head with a ring of downy feathers around its neck and the body of a serpent, with a bird's wings that constantly flap to keep it airborne.

Having appeared many times throughout the series, Chimaeras have proven themselves to be formidable creatures, often having great potential for strength, magic, and natural skills such as breathing fire and ice as well as a chance to drop Chimaera wings if they are defeated. They can be terrible creatures to face in battle and terrific allies to have at one's side.

Chimaeras appeared from the beginning of the game. They are able to breathe out both Fire Breath and Flame Breath. In Version 2.0, chimaers were one of the original ten monsters that could be tamed by Monster Masters. Starting with Version 5.0, vicious chimaeras can be faced in the Netherworld, as well, now having the ability to breathe out a blazing fire.

For the monster vocation in Dragon Quest VII, see Chimaera (vocation).

The Chimaera is a monster in the series.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

The chimaera is a monster with a vulture's head with a ring of downy feathers around its neck and the body of a serpent, with a bird's wings that constantly flap to keep it airborne.

Having appeared many times throughout the series, chimaeras have proven themselves to be formidable creatures, often having great potential for strength, magic, and natural skills such as breathing fire and ice as well as a chance to drop chimaera wings if they are defeated. They can be terrible creatures to face in battle and terrific allies to have at one's side.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Chimaeras appeared from the beginning of the game. They are able to breathe out both Fire Breath and Flame Breath. In Version 2.0, chimaeras were one of the original ten monsters that could be tamed by Monster Masters. Starting with Version 5.0, vicious chimaeras can be faced in the Netherworld, as well, now having the ability to breathe out a blazing fire.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

 • In Greek mythology, the Chimaera is a fire-breathing hybrid creature from Lycia in Asia Minor. It is traditionally depicted as a lion with the head of a goat sprouting from its neck, a tail ending with a snake's head, and occasionally with a pair of dragon's wings on its back. It was said to be one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna.
 • The chimaera's original name, wyvern, is a type of mythical dragon with two wings, two legs, and a pointed tail which is sometimes said to be a venomous stinger. It is featured frequently in heraldry.
