Dire Pyre, also known as Grim Breath, is a breath attack in the series.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]

Dire Pyre is an enemy-only skill that can be used by Gold grabbers, Jasper Unbound, Overweening Pride, and Calasmos. It inflicts between 130~150 Dark-elemental damage to the entire party. When used, the in-game text states that the user "spews forth pitch-black flames!".

  • In the Definitive Edition of the game, Jasper will also use it in duel against Hendrik once he has changed to his second form.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit | edit source]

Known as Grim Breath in this game, it costs 80 MP to use and deals 220~320 Dark-elemental damage to all enemies, but has lost the Fizzle-like effect that the weaker Black Breath possessed. It is learned via the Bad Breather, Barbarus, Blighter, Fallen Angel Corvus, Jasper Unbound, and Wyrmhole Dragon talents.
