Parallax is a recurring ability in the franchise. It is a powerful axe swing that may paralyze the enemy.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]
Yangus can use Parallax as an axe technique after allocating 42 skill points into the associated skill. The swing has a 1/8th chance to paralyze an enemy, but will deal 30% more damage upon contact.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]
This ability is learned with 13 skill points invested into Axe skill. It functions identically as its previous appearance.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]
Hendrik learns parallax through his axe skill tree for 9 points. It costs 10 MP to use and deals 300% damage with a 25% chance to paralyze a foe.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit | edit source]
Parallax costs 20 MP and deals 30% more damage than an normal attack on top of attempting to numb the target for 2~5 turns. It is learned through the Anaesthetist, Maniac, Outlaw, Slayer, Überkilling Machine, and Warmonger talents.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit | edit source]
Yangus learns to use Parallax for 8 skill points, and it costs 6 MP. It sends out a shockwave that sends enemies flying, and can be upgraded to Super Parallax and Über Parallax for increased damage.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[edit | edit source]
Desdemona learns to use Parallax when reaching Rank 2 in Proficiency. Parallax functions identically to its appearance in the previous game, except it costs 10 MP.
