Dark Breath is a breath attack in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It emits shadowy flames on enemies.
Appearances
Dragon Quest IX
In the original Japanese version, there are two different darkness-based breath attacks. The first can be used by various enemies and bosses, including Barbarus, Corvus's second form, Equinox, Hammer horror, and Vermil lion and deals between 55~74 darkness damage on the entire party. The second is a hellish halitosis that is exclusive to the Dragonlord himself. Its damage range is calculated as (100+(lv^2/23)) * 0.9~1.1. This gives the skill a minimum range of 153~187, and a cap of 473~578. In the English version, the user is described as "spew[ing] forth a cloud of malevolent darkness".
Dragon Quest XI
Dark Breath is an enemy-only skill that can be used by Auroral serpent, Dark gryphon, Equinox, Lord Dragon, Nagasus, Platinum poppet, Shadeshifter, and the End of Time. When used, it is described as a "black breath" or "pitch black flames" that are spewed at the party.
