Not to be confused with the Focus skill tree or the Hocus Pocus spell.

Focus Pocus is an ability in the series.

Characteristics

In the Dragon Quest Monsters series of games, it is an ability that would let the user take two actions their next turn. In the main games, Focus Pocus replenishes some of the user's MP after each turn.

Appearances

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

In Dragon Quest I, Focus Pocus can be learned by the Hero by using the Focus Pocus scroll, which can be found in a treasure chest in the Weirdwood. It costs 8 MP to use and recovers some MP for a few turns.

  • In Dragon Quest II, Focus Pocus can be learned by the Prince of Midenhall or Prince of Cannock by using a Focus Pocus Scroll, and it can also be learned by the Princess of Moonbrooke naturally at level 20. It costs 8 MP to use and recovers a small amount of the user's MP for a few turns. One Focus Pocus Scroll can be received as a prize for turning in 40 Mini medals.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

Focus Pocus can be learned by the Monster Wrangler upon recruiting 80 monsters. It recovers MP based on the user's level for 3 MP for 3~5 turns, calculated as Level x 0.2.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

Appearing exclusively in the 3DS version, Focus Pocus can be learned by Luminaries at rank 4 and Druids at rank 1. The MP restored is calculated as ((Level / 10) -1), meaning the range is 3~8 at level 99. The restoration lasts for 6~9 turns.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Focus Pocus can be learned by allocating 46 skill points into the Spellcraft skill. It costs 3 MP to use, lasts 4~6 turns, and the amount of MP restored per turn is Level / 10 with 3 MP being the minimum restored.

Dragon Quest Monsters

Known as Focus in this game, this skill allows a monster to perform the same skill or spell their next turn twice in a row. Although it has no MP cost, it uses MP for both moves performed, meaning that it has no effect on skills such as MegaMagic that completely drain the user's MP. It can be learned naturally by Akubar, DeathMore3, herbman, and servant as long as they are level 18 with 126 max HP, 108 DEF, 108 AGL, and 108 INT.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2

Focus now requires 195 INT to learn and can be learned by AsuraZoma, granslime, LordDraco, Orgodemir, and Poseidon.
