The She-slime is the first pallet swap monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in the very first game, they are orange, ever-so-slightly-stronger Slimes.
Despite the name, the orange slimes' sexes are as ambiguous as those of regular globs and the nomenclature is meant to evoke real life species of animals such as ladybugs.
The change from the older Red slime localization name is due to modern hardware with more color shades available than what the graphical limitations of the NES allowed, with the globs being more of an orange shade than red. According to some games, the She-slimes are a different color than ordinary slimes due to an uncommon genetic mutation; this relative rarity has led them to be referred to as "don't-often-see-slimes". In some games, such as VI and the Joker series, it is stated that She-slimes gained their red-orange coloration from their carnivorous diet.
Starting with Dragon Quest: Monster Parade, She-slimes gained the ability to undergo slimification and form a King she-slime when eight gather together just like their blue and metallic cousins.
These bright and beautiful little orange blobs are proud as punch of their appearance. They may seem almost identical to their blue brethren, but they're a good deal stronger, and also slightly warmer to the touch.
Gootrude, Bo, Itsy, and Morrie-Morrie all appear to be She-slimes. Of the four, Gootrude is the one who most resembles a She-slime as Bo, Rocket's sister, is a bit smaller and wears a white bow, Itsy is very small, and Morrie-Morrie sports facial hair and a white headband.
Eye-catching orange slimes who seek to outgoo their more popular blue cousins through rigourous training. Some say their conspicuous colour confirms they're girls, while others maintain it's due to all the red meat they eat.

She-slime appears as an E-rank monster of the Slime family. It can be recruited from Chapters 2-2, 4-1, 4-7, 11-3 of the storyline, as well as various levels from the Slime Fest in any difficulty. The She-slime can participate in the Battle Roads of the Slime knight, Bubble slime, Pickled slime, and Skelegon as a party member.
A She-slime appears as one of the costumes for Slime in this game.
Etymology
Besu is a corruption of the Hebrew letterBeth, the second in their alphabet. In the context of Dragon Quest, it's used to declare this monster "Slime B", the second version of the more common blue Slimes.
