"Such shameless construction! Such brazen building! This whole town stinks of creation! You're heretics, the lot of you! Heretics and builders, all!"

—Clayton, upon first arriving at Furrowfield farm

Clayton (ヒース, Hisu?, lit. Heath) is a minor character in Dragon Quest Builders 2.

Appearance and Personality[edit | edit source]

Clatyon wears the typical male farming gear outfit: a green short-sleeved tunic with a dark brown undershirt, white untied farmer scarf, yellow gloves and black mud boots. His tunic is tucked over his large light brown belt, and it sits on top of his long, deep teal pants. He has dark skin, light brown eyes and indigo slicked-back hair in the hairstyle "curly quiff".

When first encountered, he is a devout follower of the Children of Hargon, but when he sees the community of Furrowfield thrive under the player's influence, Clayton can no longer deny the benefits of creation and becomes a builder.

Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit | edit source]

In one of Rosie's various missions where she sends the Builder and Malroth on a quest to find seeds for Furrowfield farm, they encounter Clayton destroying the 'fiendish farmyard' in accordance to the cult's mandates. When asked for seeds, he refuses to hand them over, but the Builder exploits his uncontrollability to till soil in a field to exhaust him. Malroth then threatens him to hand over any seeds he has and he complies, saying he would do whatever they wanted - even work on the farm - as long as they didn't kill him. After they take him back to Furrowfield Farm, Clayton calls its residents sinners and heretics for their heinous building offences. But when Pastor Al tells him that he must till and water the fields like the other farmers, he reluctantly joins the town, as per his orders.

After the Builder to builds a barn upon his request, he can no longer hide his love for building. He reasons that there's no point fighting this feeling and says his goodbyes to the cult, praying to Hargon for pre-emptive forgiveness in advance for the sins he would commit, and begs to not be turned to a dog. He then gives the Builder seeds that he had denied access to earlier.

His prayer to remain human is a nod to what happened to the Princess of Moonbrooke. She is seen as the Furrowfield retriever and can later be uncursed through the use of the Mirror of Ra.

Of note, Clayton is the character who introduces the player to the concept of room sizes and also the concept of a toilet to obtain "night soil", bodily waste that can be used for fertilizer and worm food.

Origins[edit | edit source]

After his arrival at Furrowfield, Rosie tells the Builder that Clayton - like her - is a descendant of one of Furrowfield's finest farming families, which explains his uncontrollable urge to farm. It is unclear whether he came from the same ancestry.

It is later revealed that the world that the Builder and Malroth are exploring is nothing but an illusion created by Hargon. Clayton is one of the illusions created to populate the illusory world.
