Khrumbul-Dun (オッカムル島, Okkamuru shima?, lit. Okkamuru Island) is the second island that the players travel to in Dragon Quest Builders 2. It is a quarry island that has fallen into ruin due to the Children of Hargon causing difficulties for the miners by destroying most of the ore in the mines.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit | edit source]

The Builder and Malroth are sent to Khrumbul-Dun at the behest of the Hairy Hermit to acquire ore and metals for the Isle of Awakening. They encounter the daughter of a barkeeper, named Babs, and work with her to restore the Golden Age of Khrumbul-Dun, a long-gone era where the now-dilapidated mines were full to the brim with ore and its workers had infinitely better living conditions. Early on, they encounter a weakened golem named Goldirox, the fabled long-lost guardian of Khrumbul-Dun, and aid him in becoming a gold golem again to restore the Golden Age.

However, during a huge celebration, Babs is turned to stone by the Madusa, the overseerer of the island. All the miners are discouraged, but they decide to come up with a plan to lure the Madusa out by building a huge Gold Bar, as she hates big and flashy things. When she is defeated, she drops the Heartstone she had stolen from Goldirox, and he tells the Builder to turn it into the Golden glow to break Babs' curse. Unfortunately, Goldirox would disappear afterwards, but he would live on in the Gold Bar to guard Khrumbul-Dun once more. When Babs' curse is broken, the miners throw another party, and the next day she and some other townsfolk decide to come with the Builder back to the Isle of Awakening.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

In English, "Khrumbul-Dun" may refer to the words "crumble" and "dun", "crumble" referring to the state of the island. "Dun" has two possible meanings (or perhaps it is intended to be read as both simutaneously):

  • (adj.) being greyish-brown in colour (referring to the state of the oreless mines)
  • (v.) to demand money from someone (referring to the Madusa taking away people's shine)
