—Saffron, to the Builder, after a while of staying at Furrowfield farm

Saffron (ソフィ, Sofi?, lit. Sophie) is a character in Dragon Quest Builders 2. She is encountered on the island of Furrowfield.

Appearance & Personality[edit | edit source]

Saffron wears a standard villager's vesture, an open-vested red dress with a yellow rim around the collar with a white puffy-sleeved undershirt. The cuffs of the sleeves are red. She also wears a black sash around her waist tied at the back with a bow, and she has red leather shoes that are brown at the caps, heels and shoelaces. She has round, brown eyes and her long brown hair is in the hairstyle fashionable flick.

Saffron is very timid and, at first, a follower of the Children of Hargon out of fear. However, she loves to cook, and initially represses this urge in fear of punishment from the cultists. She tries her hardest to take care of her younger sister, Lillian.

Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit | edit source]

Saffron and her younger sister are first seen when the Builder and his friend Malroth travel with a Furrowfield retriever to the Furrowfield bog in search of seeds. The retriever, curiously, leads Malroth and the Builder to the small cave which the sisters are hiding in, the wall decorated with a Hargon's standard and two chains. It is revealed in an off-handed comment from Lillian that the dog had likely led the two to come save them because she had shared her lunch with it once. Saffron, cowering, then tells the both of them that they were put there by the Children of Hargon to reflect on the sins they had done - in other words, for cooking. Saffron is scared to stand up against the Children of Hargon, but Lillian decides she has had enough of not eating food and decides to drag her sister along with her to the farm.

Later she remarks that nobody in the farm has any respect for Hargon as they are all "indulging in the fruits of creation", and when she is confronted by her sister about her badly masked desire, she begrudgingly admits that everyone growing crops is making her hungry. After the Builder produces some bread at Saffron's request, Lillian expresses her thanks but Saffron still swears to her faith and prays that she shall not be punished. Not long after, Saffron properly thanks the Builder for making her some bread, and attempts to ask them for a favour, but clams up. Lillian remarks that she should stop wasting the Builder's time, but ends up sighing and talking for her anyway. She expresses that they had become enamoured with the idea of cooking and that she and her sister would like a place to cook. Saffron then tells the Builder the requirements for the agricultural kitchen they expect from them. When the Builder finishes building the kitchen, she is overjoyed and attempts again to tell the Builder something but hesitates again. Lillian exasperatedly says that she should just say what she wants to say, and Saffron bursts out saying that she wants to use the kitchen to cook food, officially quitting the cult.

Once the Brainy badboon that rules over the island is defeated, she stays in town continuing to cook for the people. When the Builder speaks to her after coming back to Furrowfield, she asks how her little sister is going. She can be brought to the Isle of Awakening in the post-game.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • If the Builder talks to Saffron upon a return trip to Furrowfield, she mentions she would really like the idea of a restaurant in Furrowfield farm. However, even if the Builder fulfills the build requirements of a restaurant, it is impossible to register a building as a restaurant on Furrowfield.
