Double-Edged Slash is a skill in the series.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
This skill deals a high amount of damage to a single enemy, but inflicts recoil on the user. The bonus damage effect will stack with weapons such as the Dragonsbane.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash costs 6 MP to use and inflicts 160% damage to a single enemy, with the user taking some recoil damage. It can be learned by the Prince of Midenhall at level 16.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash costs 6 MP to use and inflicts 160% damage to a single enemy, with the user taking 30% recoil damage themselves. It can be learned by Warriors starting at Level 16 if their Wisdom exceeds 27 points. It It can be used by Skelegons and Grievous bodily arms.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash inflicts 50% more damage than a normal attack to a single enemy, but the user takes 25% of the damage inflicted as recoil. It is learned by advancing to rank 4 as a Warrior. The skill can be used by Metal slime knights.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]

Double-Edged Slash deals the same amount of damage as the last game, but is now learned by reaching rank 4 of the Gladiator vocation or rank 8 as a Notso macho. It can also be used by Automatons and Slaughtomaton.
- In the Nintendo 3DS remake the skill has been buffed up considerably, dealing 170% damage to a single enemy, while the recoil is reduced to 1⁄6 of the damage inflicted. It is now learned by advancing to rank 3 as a Gladiator or rank 2 as a Champion.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]

Double-Edged Slash once again deals 50% more damage than a normal attack to a single enemy, with the user taking 25% of the damage as recoil. It can be learned by allocating 42 skill points into the Guts skill. The skill is required for Quest #105: Challengus Maximus, where the player has to defeat three Green dragons with Double-Edged Slash while envenomated and under the effects of Double Up.
Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash can be learned once again by allocating 42 points into the Gladiator's Guts skill. It costs no MP to use, inflicts 320% damage to a single enemy, and deals 35% of the damage inflicted to the user as recoil damage. It is not capable of landing a critical hit. When Gladiators were first added to the game in Version 1.3, Double-Edged Slash only deal 50% more damage than a normal attack, but it was strengthened considerably in Version 3.0 as the skill was not used very much.
- In the Offline version of the game, it can be learned by the Hero as a Gladiator at Level 21 and can also be learned by Hussar through the Cool panel of his Character Builder for 7 skill points. It also deals 320% damage to a single enemy at no MP cost, with the user taking 35% of the damage inflicted as recoil. The damage can be increased further with skill-up panels.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash can be learned by Hendrik through the Heroism panel in his Character Builder for 20 skill points and is located at the very top. It costs 6 MP to use, inflicts 320% damage to a single enemy, and deals 32% of the damage to the user as recoil.
Dragon Quest Monsters[edit | edit source]
Known as TwinSlash in this game, it costs 2 MP to use and deals 50% more damage than a normal attack to a single enemy. It can be learned naturally by ArmorPede, Grizzly, Skullgon, and WildApe at Level 8 if they have 80 max HP and 80 ATK. In this game, it has the unique effect of not inflicting recoil damage to the user if the skill manages to defeat the enemy. However, this only works on random enemies and not when used on the bosses of Travelers' Gates.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[edit | edit source]

Double-Edged Slash costs 2 MP to use and deals double the amount of damage as a normal attack to a single enemy, but inflicts 50% of the damage dealt to the user as recoil. The skill can be learned from:
- Berserker (13 points)
- Champion (7 points)
- Estark (5 points)
- Martyr (10 points)
- Trickster (12 points)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash can be learned from all the skills it could be previously, though Berserker now requires 6 points. It can also be learned from Cursader for 5 points.
Torneko: The Last Hope[edit | edit source]
TwinSlash is a special sword skill that reduces a monster's HP down to 1, while halving Torneko's HP. The condition for learning it is by reducing a monster's HP down to 1 from full HP in a single hit. It can be learned with all weapons.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash can be learned by Terry at One-Handed Sword proficiency 2 and costs 8 MP to use. When used, it sacrifices some of his HP to perform a powerful attack. It has the downside of reducing the hit counter down to 0, since the user takes damage. However, if Terry is in a state of High Tension, he is able to use the Double-Edged Slash without interrupting his combo.

Dragon Quest Rivals[edit | edit source]
Double-Edged Slash appeared in the standard card pack as a normal card for Warrior leaders.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds[edit | edit source]

Double-Edged Slash is a sword skill usable by Hyunckel and Luminary Leader (Hero and Warrior). It inflicts physical Slash-type damage over a medium area and hurts the user by 10% of their max HP.
