He is an apprentice [[Priest]] in the castle of [[Zamoksva]], and a close friend and retainer of Tsarevna [[Alena]]. When the latter escapes from the confines of her room to explore the world, he elects to accompany her along with the court magician [[Borya]] in {{DQ4 Chapter 2}}.

Kiryl can be summoned to perform a special attack. After leaping from the [[wagon]], Kiryl tries and fails to cast [[Thwack]] multiple times, before finally stomping on the text windows in disgust and (successfully) unleashing a magnified version of [[Kathwack]] in the form of angry spirits. Though these ghosts cannot inflict instant death, they deal colossal damage to all enemies.

He appears alongside his Tsarevna, meeting up with [[Luceus]] and [[Aurora]] as a rampaging [[Gigantes]] is attacking the city of Arba. The two of them are the first of the otherwordly characters that the heroes meet up with and are pursuing a thief, who turns out to be [[Robbin' 'Ood]].

In game, Kiryl uses {{Spear}}s as his weapon of choice. While his attacks are on the slower side, he is able to attack from a wider range and mix various sidesteps & backsteps to evade attacks while keeping the offensive. He also is able to support the part with Priest spells like [[Kabuff]] and [[Whack]], though does not have access to healing spells.

Kiryl reappears in Dragon Quest Heroes 2 as the final set of otherworldly travelers the party encounters, alongside [[Alena]]. He and Alena are introduced at the Great Divide, during the war against the monster kings of Al-Khazam, Kadava, and Klor. He and Alena jump in between the armies and rush to battle against the monsters much to the bewilderment of both sides, until [[Torneko]], [[Meena]], and [[Maya]] recognize the two and rush off to reunite with their old friends. After the war, Alena explains her reasons for ending up in this world, with Kiryl adding that he joined because he will always follow the Tsarevna wherever she goes and both lend their aide to the party’s cause.

In the game Kiryl is given the title ‘The Advanced Lancer’ and he once again uses [[Spears]] as his weapon of choice. Kiryl retains most of his moves from the previous game, but now has access to healing magic in the form of the [[Reheal]] spellline and additional attacks to help his damage output and range in the form of Chain Lightning and Spear of Influence.  

==Etymology==

Kiryl is the Slavic derivative of the Greek Cyril. It means "Lordly". His original English name Cristo is the Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese form of the name Christo, itself a short form of the male names Christopher or Christian.

*In the Japanese games, Kiryl's title is shinkan (神官), a Shinto priest or a person working as a government official at a place of worship, such as a shrine.
