Zoom | Zoom (ルーラ, Rūra, Ruler), is a recurring spell in the DQSeries that allows for instantaneous transportation to previously visited locales. | ||

Zoom is learned at level 13, and requires 8 MP to use. In all versions of the game prior to HD-2D, Zoom only returns the player back to Tantegel Castle. | |||

Zoom is learned by The Prince of Cannock at Level 10. In the original versions of the game, Zoom would only return the party to the location where they last saved their game. This was remedied in the Cell phone versions, and now the player can choose from a list of towns and locations, provided they visited them once. It costs 8 MP to use in the original versions, 6 MP in the GBC version, and 1 MP in the Cell phone remake. | |||

Zoom is still learned at level 13. Like other contemporary releases, the spell can be used outdoors and indoors. Also, it lets the player teleport to most specific locations on the map instead of just Tantegel. | |||

Zoom is learned by Prince of Cannock at level 17, and by Princess of Moonbrooke at starting level. It can be also used indoors, and can teleport to specific locations on the map instead of just towns. | |||

Zoom is learned by the Hero 3 at Level 7, and both Mages & Sages at level 12. This is the first installment that allowed players to choose where they wanted to go with Zoom, setting the standard for future Main Series games. | |||
Using the spell or chimaera wing will reset the time to day. | |||
The Hero can learn it in battle with the use of a glitch, though to use it prevents the spell from being learned in the field. | |||

Zoom is learned by the Hero at level 14 and by Mages and Sages at level 12. The spell is now capable of being used in-doors without bonking the character's head. | |||

Zoom is learned by the Hero 4 at Level 7, Borya at Level 9, and Maya at level 8, and is already known by the Psaro 9 upon joining. Note that the destination list resets after each chapter. | |||
Additionally, an NPC minidemon attempts to use the spell to chase Torneko Taloon from Pharos Beacon to Porthtrunnel, but bumps his head, falls and becomes unconscious. | |||

The Hero 5 learns Zoom after helping Prof. Toilen Trubble with his research in the town of Zoomingale, and this event is required to advance the plot. None of the other Party 5 members that can learn the spell are encountered until after this. The spell is used as a plot device at certain events, such as if the Hero marries Nera or Debora, and is later used by his daughter to carry him home after rescuing him. This marks the first installment that used a spell as a plot event. | |||

Zoom is learned by Ashlynn and the Hero 6 at Level 8, and by Mercury at Level 5. Other characters can learn it by advancing to either rank 3 of the Mage vocation or rank 4 of the Liquid metal slime vocation. | |||

It costs 0 MP to use. | |||

Zoom isn't present in itself in the game. Instead, the player will use specific items called Zoomstones. Each Zoomstone can be assigned to one specific location, and the player can use those stones to warp to those locations. | |||
More stones are received as the player progresses through the game, through the likes of story progression or side-quests, for example. | |||
Once a certain point of the story is reached, a quest can be completed to obtain a Mega Zoomstone, which initially allows travel to any of the major locations to each of the five continents of Astoltia. | |||
Later in the story, the Mega Zoomstone can be upgraded to a Bazoomstone, which lets the player travel to even more locations, and allows for indoors traveling. | |||
====Off==== | |||
Like on Online, Zoom isn't present in itself in the game, and the player will receive a Zoomstone. | |||
However, the player will only receive one Zoomstone, although it can register as many locations as possible. Thus, it functionally works as if the player directly had Zoom. | |||

Zoom can be learned by the Scion of Erdrick through his Character Builder and costs 40 MP to cast. It transports the Hero 1 to the selected space with a range of up to 5 spaces away from his current position. Although it can only be cast one time per battle. Upgrading the spell reduces the amount of MP it costs to cast. | |||

Zoom is not learned through a magical contract like standard spells. Instead Matoriv teaches Popp to cast Zoom by releasing magical energy from his entire body while picturing a destination. In addition to a means of fast travel like in the games, short-range Zooms can also be used for tactical repositioning in battle. Dai later learns to cast Zoom as well, and "Hero of the North" Nova can cast it at his introduction. It is also a common spell among Dark King Vearn's higher-ranking subordinates. | |||
If the user casts Zoom while distracted or not thinking of a destination, they will subconsciously travel to a place of emotional significance. This includes Popp attempting to transport Maam with Zoom only to worry about her leaving the party and arrive at the forest where they first met, and later a distraught Dai using a blind Zoom and arriving at the place where he first met his father. | |||
With sufficient practice, this technique can refined into the flight spell Levizoom. | |||
===DQTAoD=== | |||
Zoom is a technique in which a spellcaster (typically a Mage, Sage or Hero V) releases mana from their entire body, surrounding them in a white aura and causing them to fly at high speed towards a location they are familiar with. Aside from being a means of fast travel, short-range Zoom spells can also be used for quick repositioning in combat. | |||
A caster with sufficient mastery of Zoom can perform the Levizoom (JP: Toberuura) technique, which allows slower, fully-controllable flight and does not require calling a spell name. | |||
===SSB5=== | |||
Zoom is one of the spells that can be used by the Hero Smash through his Down special, Command Selection. This costs 8 MP to use, and allows the Hero to quickly fly back to the main platform of the stage, provided he isn't obstructed by a ceiling overhead. Compared to the Hero Smash's up-special attack (Woosh, which can be further charged-up to Swoosh and Kaswoosh), Zoom provides a greatly increased vertical-recovery distance and a period of invincibility with a much lower MP cost than Kaswoosh, but has the notable downsides of not damaging opponents, the ascent being followed by a swift and uncontrollable descent with very little horizontal movement, and the inherent unreliability of the Command Selection menu's randomly-chosen options. However, if the Hero Smash is close to the blast line, the chance of Zoom appearing in the command list is tripled. | |||

Zoom (ルーラ, Rūra, Ruler), is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series that allows for instantaneous transportation to previously visited locales.
The amount of MP it costs tends to change from game to game, but the functionally remains the same. With one exception, Zoom cannot be used indoors.
Appearances[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned at level 13, and requires 8 MP to use. In all versions of the game prior to HD-2D, Zoom only returns the player back to Tantegel Castle.
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by The Prince of Cannock at Level 10. In the original versions of the game, Zoom would only return the party to the location where they last saved their game. This was remedied in the Cell phone versions, and now the player can choose from a list of towns and locations, provided they visited them once. It costs 8 MP to use in the original versions, 6 MP in the GBC version, and 1 MP in the Cell phone remake.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Zoom is still learned at level 13. Like other contemporary releases, the spell can be used outdoors and indoors. Also, it lets the player teleport to most specific locations on the map instead of just Tantegel.
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by Prince of Cannock at level 17, and by Princess of Moonbrooke at starting level. It can be also used indoors, and can teleport to specific locations on the map instead of just towns.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by the Hero at Level 7, and both Mages & Sages at level 12. This is the first installment that allowed players to choose where they wanted to go with Zoom, setting the standard for future Dragon Quest games.
Using the spell or chimaera wing will reset the time to day.
The Hero can learn it in battle with the use of a glitch, though to use it prevents the spell from being learned in the field.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by the Hero at level 14 and by Mages and Sages at level 12. The spell is now capable of being used in-doors without bonking the character's head.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by the Hero at Level 7, Borya at Level 9, and Maya at level 8, and is already known by the 9th Chosen One upon joining. Note that the destination list resets after each chapter.
Additionally, an NPC minidemon attempts to use the spell to chase Torneko Taloon from Pharos Beacon to Porthtrunnel, but bumps his head, falls and becomes unconscious.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]
| Name | Level |
|---|---|
| Hero | * |
| Madchen | 5 |
| Old man of the sea | 10 |
| Hawk man | 13 |
| Chimaera | 24 |
| Beastmaster | 30 |
| Starkers | 40 |
The Hero learns Zoom after helping Prof. Toilen Trubble with his research in the town of Zoomingale, and this event is required to advance the plot. None of the other party members that can learn the spell are encountered until after this. The spell is used as a plot device at certain events, such as if the Hero marries Nera or Debora, and is later used by his daughter to carry him home after rescuing him. This marks the first installment that used a spell as a plot event.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by Ashlynn and the Hero at Level 8, and by Mercury at Level 5. Other characters can learn it by advancing to either rank 3 of the Mage vocation or rank 4 of the Liquid metal slime vocation.
DS version[edit | edit source]
After acquiring Ra's Mirror the spell can be upgraded by Madame Luca Luminista to enable warping between worlds.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by Hero at Level 8, and at starting level by Mervyn. Also, it is learned by Mage vocation at 3 stars.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined[edit | edit source]
In Reimagined, Zoom is instead learned by default by Hero, and he always has it. It also costs 0 MP like contemporary releases and can be used to travel to any specific location on the map and also works indoors.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]
The Eight learns this spell after investing 8 points into his "Courage" skill. It costs 1 MP to cast.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by Hero through the story after having returned to The Observatory and having interacted with Yggdrasil. It costs 0 MP to use.
Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest X Online[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest X Offline[edit | edit source]
Like on Online, Zoom isn't present in itself in the game, and the player will receive a Zoomstone. However, the player will only receive one Zoomstone, although it can register as many locations as possible. Thus, it functionally works as if the player directly had Zoom.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]
Zoom is learned by Hero through story progression, after the events of Hotto. Starting from this game, the spell can also be used indoors.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit | edit source]
Zoom can be learned by the Scion of Erdrick through his Character Builder and costs 40 MP to cast. It transports the Hero to the selected space with a range of up to 5 spaces away from his current position. Although it can only be cast one time per battle. Upgrading the spell reduces the amount of MP it costs to cast.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[edit | edit source]
Zoom is a technique in which a spellcaster (typically a Mage, Sage or Hero) releases mana from their entire body, surrounding them in a white aura and causing them to fly at high speed towards a location they are familiar with.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit | edit source]
Zoom is one of the spells that can be used by the Hero through his Down special, Command Selection. This costs 8 MP to use, and allows the Hero to quickly fly back to the main platform of the stage, provided he isn't obstructed by a ceiling overhead. Compared to the Hero's up-special attack (Woosh, which can be further charged-up to Swoosh and Kaswoosh), Zoom provides a greatly increased vertical-recovery distance and a period of invincibility with a much lower MP cost than Kaswoosh, but has the notable downsides of not damaging opponents, the ascent being followed by a swift and uncontrollable descent with very little horizontal movement, and the inherent unreliability of the Command Selection menu's randomly-chosen options. However, if the Hero is close to the blast line, the chance of Zoom appearing in the command list is tripled.
