The steel broadsword is a standard sword with a long blade forged from steel and a yellow hilt and crossguard. It often marks the turning point from early game weapons to mid-level weapons, being an effective weapon in terms of attack power and gold cost. This sword has appeared in every main entry in the series and even multiple spinoffs, as well.

The steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +30 and can only be equipped by the Hero. It can be purchased from Moonahan, Rippleport, Tantegel, and Dirkandor for 1,500 gold and sold for 1,125 gold.

The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33 and can be equipped by the Hero, Warriors, Martial Artists, and Sages. However, it actually decreases a Martial Artist's Attack by 16. It can be purchased for 1,300 gold coins (1,500 gold in the original NES version) at several locations or one can be obtained by winning the first Treasures n' Trapdoors Track near Romaria.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +40 and can be equipped by the Hero, Ragnar, and last character. It can be purchased for 2,000 gold in Ballymoral, Porthtrunnel, Mintos, Zalenagrad, and Canalot.
During Chapter 3, after opening his own shop, Torneko can obtain 60,000 gold coins by giving Endor soldiers a total of 6 steel broadswords and 6 pieces of iron armour.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33 and can be equipped by the Hero, the Hero's son, Harry, Tuppence, and Dwight. Among recruitable monsters, Barbatos, Killing machine, Golem, Magic marionette, Mudraker, Wax murderer, Hawk man, Hyperanemon, Mandrake marshal and Samigina can equip it, too. It can be bought for 2,000 gold in Coburg, Lodestar Harbour, Zoomingale, Mostroferrato, and Stockenbarrel.

The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33, a Style bonus of +16 and can be equipped by the Hero, Carver, Amos, Terry, and Goowain. Metal slime knights have a 1⁄64 chance of dropping one. It can be purchased for 2,000 gold at Alltrades Abbey, Amor, Wellshire, Ghent, and Scrimsley, and can be sold for 1,500 gold.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33, a Style bonus of +16, and can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, Ruff, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. Equipping the sword will actually decrease Ruff's attack by 16, though. Sir Mervyn joins the party with one equipped. It can be purchased for 2,800 gold coins at Pilgrim's Perdition, Allblades Arena, Alltrades Abbey and Gröndal in the present, and El Ciclo, and it can be sold for 1,400. One can be found at Providence in the past in a treasure chest requiring the Thief's key to open while another can be found in Nottagen Cavern. It can be dropped by Mandrake major, Skeleton soldier, and Lesionnaire. The steel broadsword can be won as a prize from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.

The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +35 and can be equipped by the Hero, as well as Jessica and Red if they have enough skill points in their Knives skill. It can be purchased in Ascantha and Pickham for 2,000 gold and sold for 1,000 gold.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies edit
For the first time in the series, the steel broadsword cannot be purchased from any shop. It can be made by upgrading an iron broadsword in the Krak Pot and can be upgraded even further.

Dragon Quest X edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33, a Style bonus of +5, and increases the wielder's Weight by 5. It has an equipment level of 28 and can be equipped by Warriors, Gladiators, Paladins, Armamentalists, Fortune Tellers, Gadabouts, Demon Swordsmen, and Guardians. The sword can be crafted by a weapon blacksmith.

Dragon Quest X Offline edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +33 and a Charm bonus of +5. It can be equipped by the Hero as a Warrior, Gladiator, Paladin, or Gadabout, as well as Hussar and Anlucia. It can be purchased for 2,200 gold from various shops or crafted with the Fun-Size Forge.

The recipe book Smithing with Steel contains the recipe for the steel broadsword. It can be found on a bookshelf at the Warrior's Rest Inn.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker edit
The Steel broadsword has an Attack bonus of +30. It can be purchased from the Lethal Weapons Armoury as well as the vending machine on Celeste Isle for 1,600 Gold Coins.

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors edit
The Steel broadsword is made by tempering the Copper Sword with 2 Monsterbone and 1 Iron Ore. After this sword is tempered into a derivative sword, it becomes available to buy normally in the weapon shop for 750 Gold Coins. This sword also teaches the hero the Multistrike Master Stroke and increases his attack by +25.

The Steel broadsword is a B-rank sword that can be purchased from the Tact Point Shop for 2,000 points each or received as a reward for completing the Swords: Advanced level. It can also be received as a reward for completing Stage 3 of the Walking corpse, Green dragon, and Ragnar's Battle Roads. It has an ATK bonus of +8, a max HP bonus of +27, and has three slots for Alchemy Effects.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds edit
The Steel broadsword is a 2★ sword that can be equipped by the Luminary Leader as a Hero or Warrior, as well as all versions of Dai, Avan, Hyunckel in his Dark Armour Blade or as a Disciple of Avan, Baran, and Nova. At level 35, it has a Physical Attack bonus of +38. The sword could occasionally be received from limited Treasure Hunts.
